Garment Care

How to wash, dry and store satin, velvet, tulle and sequinned pieces.

Always check the label first

The care label sewn inside your dress is the authority — follow it. The guidance below is the general rule for the fabrics we use.

General guidance

  • Satin, chiffon and mesh: hand wash cold or use a delicate cycle in a mesh laundry bag. Do not wring.
  • Velvet: dry clean only. Velvet crushes and marks if it gets wet.
  • Sequin, beaded and rhinestone pieces: dry clean only. Machine washing pulls threads and dulls the stones.
  • Tulle: hand wash cold, or spot clean. Tulle snags easily — keep it away from zips, watches and jewellery.
  • Satin linings: turn the dress inside out before any contact with heat.

Drying and storing

  • Never tumble dry. Lay flat on a towel, or hang to dry in the shade.
  • Do not iron directly onto sequins, beading or velvet. Use steam from a distance, or press through a cloth on the inside.
  • Store on a padded hanger, not a wire one. Hang heavy gowns by the inner loops if the dress has them.
  • Keep beads and sequins away from direct sunlight for long periods — some finishes fade.
