Every story is different. Every book is personal.

Three concept books, built to show the range of what a story can become — a love story, a childhood memory, and a life gathered up before it slips away. They are samples, made to explain the product.

The flat with the broken radiator

Illustrated interior page

Our Story14

We had been in that flat for three weeks when the radiator gave up. You said we would laugh about it one day. You were right, obviously. But at the time, I remember the two of us in two coats and one blanket, arguing about whose turn it was to call the landlord.

“Some stories do not need a beginning. They need a Tuesday, and someone in the doorway, and a sentence you cannot take back.”

Our Story

A love story, told the way it actually happened

“Some stories do not need a beginning. They need a Tuesday, and someone in the doorway, and a sentence you cannot take back.”

We had been in that flat for three weeks when the radiator gave up. You said we would laugh about it one day. You were right, obviously. But at the time, I remember the two of us in two coats and one blanket, arguing about whose turn it was to call the landlord.

That was the winter I understood something about you: that you were never going to panic. Whatever was going wrong, you met it with the same steady face you had when we met, standing at the back of a room I had no business being in.

Two wheels, no training wheels

Illustrated interior page

Emma and the Day She Learned to Ride14

The bike was too big for her. Everyone said so. Emma did not care about that, and stood at the top of the driveway with her hands so tight on the handlebars that her knuckles went white. "Do not let go," she said. So I did not let go. For a while.

“She will not remember this day. That is exactly why it is in a book.”

Emma and the Day She Learned to Ride

A childhood memory, kept forever

“She will not remember this day. That is exactly why it is in a book.”

The bike was too big for her. Everyone said so. Emma did not care about that, and stood at the top of the driveway with her hands so tight on the handlebars that her knuckles went white. "Do not let go," she said. So I did not let go. For a while.

Nine minutes later she was going around the block on her own with her hair everywhere, yelling something I could not make out, and I was standing in the middle of the street with my hands still shaped like they were holding her.

The shop on the corner

Illustrated interior page

Grandpa's Story14

He opened it in the spring and closed it thirty-one years later, and in between there were four children, two floods, and a ledger he kept by hand right up until the end. He said the shop never made him rich. He said it made him known, which he thought was better.

“Most lives are not documented. They are remembered, and then they are half-remembered, and then they are gone.”

Grandpa's Story

A life, gathered while it can still be asked about

“Most lives are not documented. They are remembered, and then they are half-remembered, and then they are gone.”

He opened it in the spring and closed it thirty-one years later, and in between there were four children, two floods, and a ledger he kept by hand right up until the end. He said the shop never made him rich. He said it made him known, which he thought was better.

When we asked him what he wanted people to remember, he thought about it for a long time. Then he said: "That the door was always open and the tea was always hot."

How we present our work

Real books replace these, with the writer’s permission.

Everything on this site describes something we can actually do. A book is written from your words, laid out around your photographs, printed, bound and delivered — and none of it goes to print until you have looked at it and said yes.

What you will not find here is a wall of five-star reviews, a customer count, or a newspaper logo we have not earned. Those things are worth having only when they are true, and they become worthless the moment someone checks. When real customer books exist, they will appear on this page in place of the samples, with the writer’s permission and their own words.
